ABOUT

INTRODUCTIONS

Art works as an agent,
combining our senses in ways that broaden
the meaning and significance of our existence.
I am grateful for the opportunity
to communicate with art for the enjoyment of others,
as I attempt to uncover and understand the dialogue
that defines our time and place in history.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Work was designed for the function of all people;
in the way a gear was designed for the function of an engine.
We are intended to conduct and construct ourselves in a way that propels us forward,
wherever the destination is necessary.

Reach toward others on a common ground
in order to ignite an atmosphere of evolution.

BIO

Born and raised in San Diego, California, Katherine attended Catholic School from Kindergarten till she graduated from High School. This conservative arena produced a rather opposite effect on her interests, because at an early age she began to develop an affinity for the arts as well as a curiosity for alternative forms of religious worship, including occult forms of spirituality.

As a young girl, Katherine immersed herself in old world literature such as Aesop’s Fables, World Mythologies, and Grimm’s Fairy Tales, but as she transitioned into adolescence, her conceptual and illustrative concentrations broadened into more mainstream media influences, introduced by the San Diego Comic Con International. After attending a few conventions, she developed a vocabulary of idols that included (but was not limited to) Frank Frazetta, Jean Giraud Moebius, Hans Rudolf Geiger, Olivia de Berardines, Hayao Miyazaki, Naoko Takeuchi and Osamu Tezuka. Each of these individuals inspired Katherine to pursue a life of expression in the world of art, and from that point on she was determined to live her dream.

Upon graduating from High School, Katherine attended college at the University of California Santa Cruz where she secured a Degree in Art with an emphasis in Old World Printmaking. She specifically studied Stone Lithography, Copper Intaglio and various Monotype Media in addition to a handful of modern print methods in the realm of Digital Printmaking.

Shortly after graduating from College, she landed a job as a Graphic Designer for the Marine Corps Community Services Miramar (a marketing department dedicated to the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar) designing print media for the Marine Base as well as their World Famous Air Show. While working for the government, Katherine continued training as an artist in her spare time, studying Classical Illustration and Figure Drawing at the Watts Atelier in Encinitas, California. But it wasn’t until a little more than a year after attending the Atelier that she decided to change her career path and pursue the life of a Professional Tattoo Artist as a means to protect her vision as a Fine Artist.

Since 2010, Katherine spent the better part of four years working through three unpaid apprenticeships as well as simultaneously exhibiting her Fine Art whenever and wherever possible. Fortunately, her efforts to maintain a strong voice, in the eyes of all Visual Arts Industries, eventually lead to a publishing deal with Alberto Ruiz, owner and operator of Brandstudio Press, Trinquétte Publishing and Xupuy Ediciones. This occurrence marked an important milestone for Katherine while in the throws of her decision to manifest a life centered around her passion for Art.

Meanwhile, as she continued her pursuits in the Tattoo Industry, Katherine’s final and most extensive apprenticeship took place under the Tutelage of Guru Tattoo in Pacific Beach, California. During that time she received a very thorough curriculum of tattoo fundamentals, spanning concepts such as; Artistic Tattoo Design, Tattoo Machine Building and Maintenance, and of course Tattoo Application. However, the cumulative result of Katherine’s many Apprenticeships, caused her to truly fall in love with Tattoo Culture, and the people who passionately preserve the traditional values of this Service Industry.

Now, having absorbed these values and traditions into her own repertoire, Katherine intends to uphold these ideals by striving to perfect her craft and express her best efforts in every tattoo, every art work, and every interaction with the people who travel in and out of her life. She is nothing short of grateful and honored to be a part of this incredible Community of Artists and hopes that her place in the Industry is one that will contribute to its positive and professional expansion.

In the years to come, Katherine will continue building her skills as an Artisan as well as the presence of her Brand in order to optimally convey the message of her unique perspective on life and humanity. This vision includes a multi-faceted label that will utilize and showcase her skills as a Graphic Designer, Tattoo Artist, Fine Artist and Illustrator, but ultimately provide yet another platform to continue the unfettered pursuit of a life devoted to artistic passion.
